Acceptable Use Policy
What may not be hosted here, and what happens if it is. Short, because the rule behind it is short.
01The rule behind the rules
Do not use Cleverotter to host anything illegal, to harm anyone, or to take more than your share of shared infrastructure. Everything below is a worked example of one of those three.
This policy forms part of our Terms of Service and applies to every tier, including the free one.
02Content that may not be hosted
You may not use the Service to store, publish, link to or distribute:
- child sexual abuse material, of any kind, under any circumstances;
- content that incites or facilitates terrorism or violent extremism;
- content that infringes copyright, trade marks, patents or other intellectual property rights;
- malware, ransomware, exploit kits, or software whose purpose is to gain unauthorised access to systems;
- phishing pages, fraudulent shops, fake login pages, or any material designed to deceive people into handing over credentials, money or personal data;
- content that harasses, defames, threatens or incites violence or hatred against a person or group;
- non-consensual intimate imagery, or material published to intimidate or expose a person;
- content unlawful under Spanish or EU law, or under the law of a country you are deliberately targeting.
03Conduct that is not permitted
- Attacking anything. Do not use the Service to scan, probe, overload or attack any system, ours or anyone else's.
- Circumventing limits. Do not evade quotas, rate limits, billing or suspension — including by spreading one project across multiple free accounts.
- Spam. Do not host landing pages, redirects or link farms serving unsolicited bulk messaging or SEO manipulation.
- Using us as a CDN or file drop. The Service is for serving websites. It is not general-purpose file distribution, a media backend for a site hosted elsewhere, or a backup target.
- Proxying or tunnelling. Do not use the Service to relay or anonymise traffic.
- Cryptocurrency mining, or shipping code whose purpose is to consume a Visitor's resources without their knowledge.
- Impersonating us. Do not present a Site as an official Cleverotter property.
04Fair use of unmetered allowances
Where we describe something as unlimited — sites, team members, custom domains — we mean it for normal use, and we would rather say so plainly than bury a number in a footnote.
What that excludes is automated creation of accounts or Sites at scale, use that degrades the Service for other customers, and use that is plainly not the publishing of websites. If your use is unusual and legitimate, tell us at hello@cleverotter.eu and we will almost certainly say yes.
05Security research
We welcome good-faith security research into our own infrastructure. Report findings to security@cleverotter.eu. Please do not access other customers' data, degrade the Service, or publish a vulnerability before we have had a reasonable chance to fix it. Research conducted on those terms will not be treated as a breach of this policy.
06How we enforce this
Our response is proportionate to what we find. In most cases we contact you first and give you a chance to fix it.
- Notice. An email describing the problem and a deadline to resolve it.
- Suspension of one Site. Where the problem is contained to a single Site.
- Immediate suspension without notice. Reserved for manifestly illegal content, active harm to others, or a threat to the Service.
- Termination. For serious or repeated breaches.
You will receive a statement of reasons for any removal or suspension, and you may appeal it, as described in Notice and Action.
07Reporting a breach
To report content on our infrastructure that breaches this policy or the law, use the process in our Notice and Action policy, or email abuse@cleverotter.eu.
Questions about this document
Ask a person, not a form.
We would rather answer a question before you sign up than argue about a clause afterwards.
